The Gators would
like to recognize Allie Criss, Jordan Morling, and Keith Myburgh for
making the Virginia Zones All Star Meet. At Zones, Keith broke his
state record in the 9-10 200 IM by swimming a 2:41.99.
The Virginia
Gator women placed 1st at Speedo Super Sectionals in Buffalo, NY. The
men finished 3rd and the
team took 3rd overall. On the first day of the meet, Lauren Gray swam
to a 3rd place finish and bested the 15-16 team record in the 1500
(17.18.97). In the 800 Free, Jacob Siar smash the 15-16 Gator standard
(8.39.43). Ali Horn won the 200 IM with a time of 2.19.07 and in the
process broke a 20 year old Gator senior record. Lauren Hines finished
3rd in the 100 Free and also established a new senior record (57.72).
Also in the 100 Free, Austin Criss swam a 54.01 to set a new 15-16 team
record. A third serior record fell when Keri Sink swam a 1.13.28 in the
100 Breast.
Great swimming
continued on Friday. Lauren Hines broke the Gator 200 Free record with
a time of 2.06.62. Austin Criss swam a strong 1.55.96 in the 200 Free
to set a new 15-16 team record. Austin then went on to establish his
second team record of the day in the 100 Fly by going a 58.02. Ali Horn
won the 400 IM. To end the day, the 400 Free Relay team of Jackie
Crawford, Lauren Hines, Ali Horn, and Lauren Grey swam hard to best the
Gator senior record with a time of 3.58.29.
On Saturday, Ali
Horn placed first in the 200 Fly to win her third event of the meet. In
the process, Ali broke one of the oldest team records by breaking the
15-16 team standard with a swim of 2.15.85. Jacob Siar bettered his
15-16 team record in the 100 Back by swimming 1.01.20 in the event. Ali
also improved her team record in the 15-16 400 Free (4.25.40).
The 800 Free Relay team of Lauren Hines, Ali Horn, Devin Henry, and
Lauren Grey pushed hard to set a Gator senior record with a time of
8.40.63.
During the final
day of the meet, Lauren Hines beat her senior team record with a
2.21.79 in the 200 Back. In the same event, Jackie broke the 15-16 team
record with a time of 2.22.97. Also in the 200 Back, Austin Criss swam
strong and broke the 15-16 team record (2.12.51). Jacob Siar dropped 15
seconds in the 1500 Free to better his 15-16 team record (16.33.87).
Keri Sink won the 200 Breast and set a new senior team record with a
time of 2.37.33. In the last event of the meet, Lauren Hines, Keri
Sink, Ali Horn, and Lauren Gray won the 400 Medley Relay. This win gave
our women's team first place in the meet! Way to go Gators!
The
younger Gators has some great swims this past weekend at Virginia Age
Group Championships. Keith Myburgh started off the meet by winning the
10 and under 400 Free (4.58.09). Jordan Morling placed second in this
event. On Friday, Jordan Morling claimed her first state championship
by winning the 100 Fly. Khalil Fonder swam strong to place second in
the 100 Fly. Keith Myburgh continued his great swimming by finished
second in the 50 Breast and the 200 Free. The Gators took both the
men's and women's 10 and under 200 IM with Jordan Morling and Keith
Myburgh both winning this event. Keith Myburgh set a new team record
and bested a 12 year old state record with a time of 2.43.14. Also
breaking a team record was the 10 and under 400 medley team of Ali
Lawson, Jordan Morling, Emma Cartledge, and Paige Assaid (5.54.81). On
the last day of the meet, Khalil Fonder finished 2nd in the 100 Back
and established a new team record with a time of 1.17.86. Jordan
Morling claimed her second state title by winning the 50 Fly. The 10
and under 400 Freestyle relay team came in 2nd in this event and a new
team standard by swimming 5.15.21. Way to go Gators!
Our senior swimmers participated in our
last meet before Sectionals. The Gators finished a strong 7th place.
Good job to Thiago Caze who broke the team record in the 1500 with a
time of 16.06.48. Jacob Siar also set two 15-16 Gator team records in
the 1500 (16.48.73) and the 100 Back (1.02.98). The senior Gators
conclude the long course season at Sectionals in Buffalo, NY.
The Gators set four records at the Eagle Invitational
in Maryland. Keith Myburgh smashed the previous 9-10 400 Freestyle
record by swimming a 5.07.59. Jordan Morling bested the 9-10 100 Fly
record which was 15 years old with a time of 1.16.24. Jacob Siar set
two more team standards. In the 13-14 100 Back (1.04.36) and 200 Back
(2.18.85) events new records were established. Great swimming Gators.
The Gators started off the 2009 long course season
with several strong swims at the New South Swimming LC Invitational in
Charlotte, NC. Results can be found below.
The Virginia Gators held their annual banquet this
past Sunday. The orginization honored our all of atheletes and
especially our senior swimmers. This year we have seven seniors who
will go on to swim in college:
Our younger swimmers represented the Gator team very
well at the HYCAT Odd Age Group Invitational. Even though the Gators
brought only a small amount of swimmers, we were able to finish 2nd
overall. Great job!
There were several dominating swims by Gator swimmers
during the first night of Age Group Championships. At nine years old,
Keith Myburgh dropped 20 seconds to win the 10 and under 500 Free.
Keith time of 5.41.48 sets a new Gator 9-10 record in this event. In
the 13-14 Men's 1000 Freestyle, Jacob Siar bested the meet record by
swimming a 9.34.05. This also established a new 13-14 team record.
Great start Gators!
During the second day of Virginia Age Group
Championships, the Gators had several outstanding swims. Keith Myburgh
continued his great swimming by finishing 1st in the 10 and under 200
Freestyle and 2nd in the 100 IM. Khalil Fonder placed 2nd in the 10 and
under 50 Back. Jordan Morling pushed hard and finished 3rd in the 10
and under 200 Free. Our 10 and under boy's 200 Freestyle Relay of Matt
McHugh, Khalil Fonder, Trey Todd, and Keith Myburgh won the event.
Jackie Crawford set a new 13-14 team record while on her way to winning
the 100 Breast with a time of 1.06.11. Jacob Siar dominated the field
in the 200 Freestyle and set a new Gator 13-14 record in the event with
a 1.43.68. Later on in the evening Jacob Siar, Ryan Mitchell, Matt
Lockman, and Josh Klimaaitis came in 2nd in the 13-14 medley relay and
bested the Gator team record with a time of 1.43.75. After the 2nd day,
the Gators are in 4th place overall.
The entire Gator team continued to swim well during
the third day of Age Group Championship. Khalil Fonder swam to a strong
second place finish in the 10 and under 50 Fly. Keith Myburgh continued
his great swimming this weekend by finishing 3rd in the 10 and under
100 Free, winning the 100 Breast, and placing 2nd in the 200 IM. Jordan
Morling also place high in her events going 4th in the 200 IM and 5th
in the 50 Fly. The 10 and under 400 Free Relay team of Matt McHugh,
Khalil Fonder, Trey Todd, and Keith Myburgh pushed hard and won the
event. Not to be out done, our older swimmers swam fast as well.
Starting out finals, the relay team of Jacob Siar, Matt Lockman, Ryan
Mitchell, and Josh Klimaaitis won the 200 Free relay with a time of
1.32.83. This was also a Gator 13-14 team record and on the inital
split, Jacob Siar bested the 13-14 team record in the 50 Free with a
22.41. Jacob continued his great swimming in the 100 Back placing 2nd
in the 100 Back with 52.98 and 1st in the 500 Free with 4.39.19. Both
times were team records. On the women's side, Jackie Crawford finished
2nd in the 13-14 100 Back with 58.30 setting a team standard in the
process. Jackie also won the 13-14 200 Breaststroke. Later on in the
meet, the 13-14 men's 400 Medley relay team of Jacob Siar, Ryan
Mitchell, Ben Kennedy, and Josh Klimaaitis set another Gator record and
swam a strong 3rd place with a time of 3:49.09. The meet concludes
tommorow.
On the last day of Age Group Championships, the
Gators finished strong. Jordan Morling took first in the 9-10 100 Fly.
The 10 and under team of Trey Todd, Keith Myburgh, Khalil Fonder, and
Matt McHugh placed 2nd in the 400 Medley relay and set a new Gator
record in this event. Another Gator relay record fell when Matt
Lockman, Ryan Mitchell, Jacob Siar, and Josh Klimaaitis placed 3rd in
the 400 Free relay with a 3.27.10. Jacob Siar won the 200 Back and
broke the Gator 13-14 record by going a 1.55.43. Jacob swam 48.19 on
his way to winning the 100 Free, and set his final team record of the
meet. Jackie Crawford dropped 6 seconds from her prelim time to win the
13-14 200 IM. Jackie also placed 2nd in the 200 Back and set a 13-14
team record with 2.06.21. Allie Criss pushed hard and swam to a 3rd
place finish in the 11-12 200 Back. The Gator finished the meet 4th.

VIRGINIA GATORS COMPETE AT NCSA JUNIOR NATIONAL
CHAMPIONSHIPS
On the last day of Junior Nationals, more Gator
records fell. Lauren Gray swam to a strong 12th place finish in the 800
Free. In this event, Lauren broke a 21 year old Gator senior record
with a time of 9.00.67. Lauren Hines also best a senior record by
swimming a 30.94 in the 50 Back during finals. Great swimming this week
Gators! Final scores and results will be posted when received.
The Gators continued to swim strong. This morning in
prelims, Seth Wensel broke the Gator senior/ 17-18 record in the 500
Free with a time of 4.26.94. This evening in finals, Seth finished 4th
in the 400 Free and set team LCM records by swimming a 4.00.34. Keri
Sink swam hard in the 200 Breast and also set both long course and
short course team records with times of 2.15.99 and 2.38.20
respectively. Her time in final placed Keri 14th overall and set a new
Virginia 17-18 record.. Ali Horn broke the Gator team records in the
500/ 400 Free by going 4.54.81 in prelims and 4.25.56 in finals.
Tonight at finals in back to back events, Gator
swimmers Seth Wensel and Ali Horn qualified for the 2009 World
Championship Trials.. Seth finished 3rd in the 200 Free by swimming
1.52.77 in the event (Gator Senior/ 17-18 record). Ali swam to a strong
5th place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4.55.37 (Gator 15-16
record). Ali also bested the senior team record in the 50 Fly with a
28.00. In prelims, Seth also bested his SCY 200 Free record by going a
1.37.89.
The Gators continued their strong swimming on the
second day of Junior Nationals. In the morning, Ali Horn bested her
senior/ 17-18 team record in the 200 Fly with a time of 1.58.21. Our
relay team of Lauren Gray, Lauren Hines, Keri Sink, and Ali Horn set a
new team record in the 800 Free Relay twice. In the morning the women
went 7.29.50 in SCY course. During finals in LCM, the team went
8.41.24. Also during finals, Lauren Hines pushed hard and establishedt
a new Gator senior/ 17-18 record in the 200 Back with a time of
2.22.12.
On the first day of the meet, the Gators started out
strong by setting two team records. Lauren Gray dropped over 30 seconds
in the 1650 Freestyle to finish 22nd. Her time of 16.52.71 set a new
15-16 team record. The 200 medley relay team of Lauren Hines, Keri
Sink, Ali Horn, and Lauren Gray broke the Gator senior record with a
time of 1.45.89. The meet continues tommorow.
The Gators traveled to Orlando to compete at NCSA
Junior National Championships this week.. Good luck to Miriam McGeath,

bettered her Gators senior record in the 200 Butterfly with a time of
2.00.06. Ali also broke her 15-16 200 Back record by swimming a

GATORS PLACE 3rd AT BLUE RIDGE REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The Gators swam to a 3rd place finish at the Blue
Ridge Regional Championship in Lynchburg. There were many best times

The Gators represented their high school teams this
past weekend at Virginia High School Swimming Championship. There were
multiple events won and state records achieved by the Gator swimmers.
In addition, many team records fell through those swims. Ali Horn broke
the senior record and the 15-16 team record with a time of 54.69 in the
100 Fly. Jacob Siar bettered his 13-14 500 Free record with a time of
4.44.61. Lauren Gray dropped 8 seconds to set a new 15-16 Gator record
in the 500 Free with a time of 4.54.94. Great swimming Gators!

The Gators participated in the PILOT January
Invitational this past weekend.. During the meet Jacob Siar set two new
team records. Jacob bettered his 13-14 100 Backstroke record with a
time of 54.62 and broke the 13-14 500 Freestyle record by swimming a

The Gators won the Pitt Christmas Invitational thanks
to wonderful swimming from the entire team. On Sunday, Andrew
Williamson took the 11-12 200 Breast to win the first event of the
night for the Gators. In the 9-10 100 Backstroke, Dorothy Halmy
established a new record by swimming a 1.08.47. Jackie Crawford took
first in the 13-14 200 Backstroke. In the senior 200 Backstroke, Lauren
Hines had a great race to win the event and set a new Gator 17-18 and
Senior record with a time of 2.01.12. In the same event, Ali Horn
bested the 13-14 team record with a time of 2.04.85. The 13-14 100
Freestyle was won by Jacob Siar. In the women's 100 Freestyle, Lauren
Hines won her second event of the night. Lauren's time of 50.78 was
both a 17-18 and Senior team record. Dorothy Halmy won the 9-10 100
Butterfly and established a new team standard in this event. The
women's 200 Butterfly was won by Ali Horn with a time of 2.00.39. This
time bettered Ali's own senior record and was a US
Open cut. Seth Wensel also won the men's 200 Fly. In the 100
Breaststroke, Keri Sink won the event and bettered the Gator Senior

The Virginia Gator swimmers continued where they left
off on Friday with some amazing swims during the second day of Pitt..
Our entire team is swimming well from our 8 and unders to our seniors.
This afternoon, Cabel Whitlow (8 and Under 100 IM) and Taylor Summerlin
(8 and Under 50 Breast) both won events. Tonight during finals, Ali
Horn had one of the best swims in the history of the Virginia Gators
swim team. Ali went 4.14.51 in the 400 IM. This time set a Gator team
record, a Virginia Swimming 15-16/ Senior record, and was a World
Championship Trials cut. Also during this event, Keri Sink broke
the Gators 17-18 team record with a time of 4.20.46. In the women's 50
Free, Lauren Hines swam a 23.81 to win this event. Katie Young pushed
hard to break the 13-14 team record in the 200 Breaststroke by going a
2.24.40. Keri Sink won the senior 200 Breast with a US
Open cut time of 2.16.31. In the 13-14 100 Backstroke, Jacob Siar
swam a 54.88 to break the team age group standard. Ali Horn continued
her assault on team records by breaking the 15-16 standard in the 100
Back with a time of 58.48. Joseph Cartledge won his second event at
Pitt by coming in first in the 9-10 200 IM. Ali Horn took down her
third individual team record of the night by swimming a 4.55.52 in the
500 Freestyle. On the men's side, Seth Wensel went a 4.29.53 to win the
event. To cap an incredible night, the 400 Medley Relay team of Jackie
Crawford, Keri Sink, Ali Horn, and Lauren Hines came in first and
established a new Virginia Swimming senior record.
Our swimmers started off the meet right by winning multiple events
and setting several team records during the first day. Lauren Gray
dropped 24 seconds in the 1000 Freestyle to set a 15-16 team record
with a 10.13.09. Joseph Cartledge won the 9-10 200 Freestyle. In the
Men's 13-14 200 Freestyle, Jacob Siar set a team record with a 1.45.24
while winning the event. Ali Horn and Lauren Hines went one and two in
the 200 Freestyle. Lauren's time of 1.50.27 set a Gator 17-18 team
record while Ali's time of 1.48.75 established a new Gator senior
standard. On the men's side, Seth Wensel swam a 1.38.81 to win the
event and break the Gator senior record. Ali was not finished and also
set a senior team record in the 200 IM with a time of 2.02.30. Keri
Sink in this event also bettered the 17-18 record by swimming a
2.03.09. In the 15-16 100 Butterfly, Ali Horn, Victoria Mesner, and
Lauren Gray finished one, two, three. During this event, Ali set her
third team record in three events with a time of 55.12. Austin Criss
won the 15-16 100 Fly and Hannah Harper won the 11-12 50 Fly. Finally,
the team of Devin Henry, Lauren Hines, Keri Sink, and Ali Horn beat the
field by 11 seconds to win the 800 Freestyle Relay. This also set a new
Gator senior record. Great swimming Gators!
Good luck to the swimmers representing the Virginia
Gators at the 2008 ConocoPhillips Short Course National Championships.
Ali Horn, Lauren Hines, Seth Wensel, and Peter Volosin traveled to
Atlanta, GA to swim in this prestigious meet. On the second day of the
meet, Ali Horn set a new 15-16 team record in the 400 IM with a time of
4.21.55. With this swim, Ali made it back to finals and finished 21st
in this event. On the third day of the meet, Ali Horn broke a 20 year
old team record in the 200 Fly with a time of 2.02.00. Ali finished
20th in prelims and will be competing in finals this evening. In the
finals, Ali finished 19th overall with a time of 2.01.64. Peter Volosin
finished the meet by breaking the team record in the 1650 Freestyle
with a time of 15:33.79. Great swimming Gators!

Our age group swimmers had a great meet this past
weekend at the H2okie Fall Invitational held at Virginia Tech. There
were multiple events won and best times achieved. Dana Barringer, Emma
Cartledge, and Natalie Kulp all made their first A times. Great job

Congratulations to two of our senior swimmers,
Lauren Hines and Seth Wensel. Both swimmers have committed to swim at
colleges next year. Seth will be attending the University of Tennessee
and will be swimming for the 7th ranked Volunteers. Lauren will be
swimming for the University of Richmond Spiders. Way to go! Your hard
work and dedication to the sport has really paid off!
Our seniors traveled down to North Carolina to swim
in the Raleigh Kick-Off Meet. Good job to Dorothy Halmy who broke the
9-10 team record in the 200 Free with a time of 2.09.70. Additionally,
Ali Horn broke 15-16 team records in the 200 Fly (2.04.78) and the 400

Three Virginia Gator swimmers have been named
Scholastic All-Americans by United States Swimming. Congratulations to

2008 VIRGINIA GATOR HALLOWEEN CLASSIC
The Gators started off the season in a great
way at the 2008 Halloween Classic. There were multiple event winners,
new time standards achieved, and all around great swims. Meet results

Seven Gator swimmers competed at Junior
National Championships in Minneapolis, MN. Garrett Greenland, Frederico
Castro, Seth Wensel, Austin Criss, Todd McGraw, Lauren Hines, and Ali
Horn represented our club.In the first
Gator swim of Junior Nationals, Todd McGraw dropped 7 seconds in the
800 Freestyle to set a new Gator team record with a time of 8.23.85.
During the second day of Junior National
Championships, Todd McGraw and Frederico Castro finished in second and
third places respectively in the 200 Butterfly. During this swim Todd
went a 2.00.31. This set a Gator team record and Virginia state record.
In prelims, Lauren Hines set a new 17-18 team record in the 100
Freestyle with a time of 58.69. On the third day of the meet, Gator
records continued to fall. Todd McGraw and Seth Wensel bettered their
team records. Todd went a 4.27.80 in the 400 IM. Seth lead off the 800
Freestyle Relay with a 1.53.44.
On Thursday, Frederico Castro went a 54.25 in
the 100 Butterfly to win the event. This swim was a Junior National
Championship meet record as well as a 17-18 Virginia state record. The
Gators concluded Junior Nationals with several strong swims. Todd
McGraw set a new team record with 16.13.95 in the 1500 Freestyle. The
team of Todd McGraw, Garrett Greenland, Frederico Castro, and Seth
Wensel finished 5th in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3.53.99.
This was a Gator team record and a 17-18 Virginia state record. While
leading off the relay, Todd McGraw set another team record in the
Backstroke with a split of 58.98. The Gator men finished the meet in
7th place overall. Congratulations on this accomplishment!
Eight Gator swimmers will represent Virginia in the
2008 Eastern Zone Long Course Championship in Rockville, MD. Good luck
to Jackie Crawford, Maddie Kennedy, Dorathy Halmy, Holly Harper, Ben
Kennedy, Joseph Cartledge, Sean Telford, and Jacob Siar.
Over a course of one week Keith Myburgh set three
Virginia Gators 8 and under records. During the Roanoke Valley Aquatic
Association City/County Championship Keith swam a 1.18.45 in the 100
IM. A couple days afterwards in time trials Keith bested the previous
record in the 1650 Freestyle by over a minute with a time of 24.07.83.
Finally, in the 200 IM he went a 2.47.86 to beat the team record. Good
work Keith!
The Virginia Gators finished a strong 6th place at
Virginia Long Course Championships. There were several strong swims,
first place finishes, and team records established during the meet.
Jacob Siar dropped over 30 seconds in the 1500 Freestyle to finish
second. This set a 13-14 team record in both the 800 Freestyle (8.57.83
split) and the 1500 Freestyle with a time of 16.54.14. In the 10 and
under 400 Freestyle, Dorathy Halmy won the event with a time of
5:14.95. Also in the 400 Freestyle, Joseph Cartledge swam strong to
finish third with a time of 5.31.45. Dorothy Halmy set a 9-10 team
record in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2.28.02. Dorothy also won
the 9-10 100 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly. Austin Criss and Jacob Siar
finished in the top two places in the 13-14 200 Freestyle. Austin's
swim of 2.00.57 set a team age group record in this event. Austin
continued to rewrite the Gator record board by winning the 200 Fly with
a time of 2.12.50. Jacob Siar set his third team record of the meet by
swimming 1.05.79 in the 100 Back. Austin won yet another event by going
a 4.20.24 in the 400 Freestyle (4.19.73 prelims). On Sunday, Austin
finished up his dominating meet by winning the 100 Freestyle with a
time of 56.58 and besting the 13-14 200 Backstroke record with a
2.19.12. Good swimming Gators.
The Virginia Gators concluded the 2008 Virginia Long
Course Senior Championships with a strong 2nd place finish. There were
24 team records, 8 meet records, 3 state records, and 2 Olympic Trial
cuts swam over the course of the meet. On the fourth day of the meet
there were several impressive swims. Todd McGraw won the 800 Freestyle.
Also in this event, Ali Horn swam a time of 9.14.61 to set a new 15-16
team standard. Stephen Hawkins, Seth Wensel, and Frederico Castro were
the top three swimmers in the 100 Freestyle. In this event, Seth set a
new 17-18 team standard with a time of 52.51. In the 200 IM, Ali Horn
swam a time of 2.24.55 to set a 15-16 team record. Our relay teams
continued to impress. The team of Lauren Hines, Keri Sink, Ali Horn,
and Bunge Okeyo won the 200 Medley Relay. In the 400 Freestyle Relay,
Frederico Castro, Seth Wensel, Carlos Maciel, and Stephen Hawkins won
the event and set a team and meet record with a time of 3.31.44.
During the third day of Virginia Senior Long Course
Championships, Seth Wensel continued his great swimming by winning the
400 Freestyle and and breaking the 24 year old meet record in this this
event. Frederico Castro and Todd McGraw finished one and two in the 200
Fly. Frederico set a new team standard and 17-18 state record by
swimming a time of 2.00.78. Later in the evening, Frederico won the 50
Freestyle with a time of 23.64. This swim also bested a 17-18 Virginia
state record. Lauren Hines swam a 26.77 to finish second in the 50 Free
and set a new 17-18 team record. Ali Horn broke the15-16 team record in
the 400 Freestyle with a swim of 4.28.42. The Gator men's team of
Stephen Hawkins, Carlos Maciel, Frederico Castro, and Seth Wensel won
the 200 Freestyle Relay and bested the state record in this event with
a time of 1.36.26.
On the second day of the competition Seth Wensel set
a senior Gator record with a time of 1.53.75 to win the 200 Freestyle.
Todd McGraw also set a senior team record in the 1500 Freestyle by
swimming a 16.22.99 and also won the 400 IM. Gators won both 100 Fly
Events. Frederico Castro swam a time of 54.72 to set a team record and
Ali Horn won with a time of 1.03.35 to best her 15-16 team record. Ali
also set a senior team record with her swim of 2.06.75 in the 200
Freestyle. Also in this event, Lauren Hines bested the 17-18 team
record with a time of 2.06.92. Our women's relay team of Ali Horn,
Devin Henry, Lauren Hines, and Victoria Mesner set a new team standard
in the 800 Freestyle Relay. Also in the 800 Freestyle Relay, the team
of Carlos Maciel, Todd McGraw, Thiago Caze, and Seth Wensel set a meet
record and a new team record. Great swimming this weekend Gators!
Todd McGraw and Peter Volosin will be competing at the United States
Team Trials in Omaha, Nebraska. Todd will be swimming in the 400 IM and
the 200 Fly. Peter will swim in the 400 and 1500 Free. GOOD LUCK!
Joey Girani was presented the 58th B’nai B’rith Award by the Israel
Friedlander Lodge of Roanoke. Joey was the first athlete from Franklin
County High School to win this award which is based 50 percent on
athletics, 25 percent on academics and 25 percent on citizenship.

The Virginia Gators would like to proudly announce that Joey Girani
has been appointed to the United States Naval Academy. Joey will be
swimming for the Midshipmen next season. Way to go Joey!
The Gators started off the last short meet of the 2008 season with a
bang. 8 year old Keith Myburgh broke a 15 year old team record by
swimming a 2.30.57 in the 200 Freestyle. Great job Keith! Results

Competing against some outstanding competition, the Virginia Gators
finished a strong 6th place overall at the 2008 Central Zone Sectional
Championship. Our women's team placed 6th and our men's team placed
7th. There were several team records broken over the course of the
meet. Carlos Maciel has set three 15-16 team records. Carlos swam a
1.57.38 in the 200 Freestyle, 4.46.16 in the 400 IM, and 8.50.19 in the
800 Free. Ali Horn broke the 15-16 team record in the 200 Freestyle
with a time of 2.09.73. Austin Criss swam 9.10.02 in the 800 Freestyle
to set a new 13-14 team record. In addition, both Seth Wensel and Joey
Girani made their Junior National cuts in the 100 Freestyle. Complete

Our younger Gators journeyed to James Madison University to
participate in the 2008 VAST Spring Splash. Our swimmers made a great
showing with Paige Assaid taking 6 first place finishes and Taylor
Summerlin having 3 first place swims. Also, good job to Carlos Amaral,
Elizabeth Taylor, Kenyon and Kemper John, and Callie and Caroline
Summerlin who swam fast and had a great time!

Nelson recently won the NCAA Division II National Championship in the
200 Back with a time of 1.47.31. This is a little thing that meant a
whole lot to me and the other coaches of the Virginia Gators.

Also, congratulations to another Gator alumni, Peter Volosin. Peter,
captain of the Brown University swim team as a senior, set a school
record in the 1,000-yard freestyle and then one week later qualified
for the United States Olympic Trials in the 400-meter freestyle.
GATORS FINISH 4th AT AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Gator swam to a strong 4th place finish overall this weekend at
Virginia Age Group Championships. The boy’s team finished 5th and the
girl’s team finished 4th. 15 team records were broken, 9 individual and
6 relay.
Five team records were broke on Friday. Khalil Fonder swam hard and
broke the 8 and under 50 Backstroke record with a time of 36.94. Ali
Horn set a new record in the 13-14 100 Fly with a time of 57.56. Austin
Criss bettered his 13-14 200 Free record by going 1.47.09. Both our
13-14 200 Medley Relay teams also set team records. The team of Jacob
Siar, Jared Jones, Austin Criss and Tim Webb went a time of 1.48.20.
Holly Harper, Katie Young, Ali Horn, and Jackie Crawford bested the
previous 200 Medley relay record by swimming a time of 1.52.02.
On the third day of the meet Ali Horn set the pace with two 1st
place finishes both being team records, 2.05.47 in the 200 Butterfly
and 5.00.93 in the 500 Freestyle. Ali's swim in the 500 Free broke a 15
year old meet record. Khalil Fonder broke his second team record by
going a 33.13. Our 13-14 swimmers also broke 3 team relay records. The
200 Freestyle Relay were broken by the teams of Hannah Harper, Jackie
Crawford, Maddie Kennedy, and Ali Horn and Jared Jones, Jacob Siar, Tim
Webb, and Austin Criss. The team of Hannah Harper, Katie Young, Ali
Horn, and Maddie Kennedy broke the Gator 13-14 400 Medley Relay.
On Sunday, the Gators continued their strong swimming. Khalil Fonder
broke his third team record by swimming 1.18.45 in the 100 Butterfly.
Austin Criss broke the team 13-14 200 Backstroke record with a 1.58.79.
Ali Horn broke a 22 year old meet record by going a 2.06.64 in the
13-14 200 IM. This swim was also a Gator team record. Our 13-14 girls
broke their 4th team relay record this meet. The team of Hannah Harper,
Jackie Crawford, Maddie Kennedy, and Ali Horn swam a time of 3.40.42 in
the 400 Freestyle Relay. Way to go Gators!
GATORS FINISH 2nd AT VIRGINIA SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
With many of our swimmers not tapered, the Virginia Gators finished
2rd overall at Virginia Senior Championships. Both the women and men's
teams finished 3rd. Todd McGraw started off the meet with a 17-18 Gator
team record in the 1650 Freestyle. Todd swam a time of 15:47.43 in this
event. During the second day of the competition, Miriam McGeath
bettered her record in the 15-16 400 IM with a time of 4.27.64. Also,
in this event, Ali Horn set a 13-14 team record with a time of 4.28.05.
The relay team of Seth Wensel, Carlos Marciel, Todd McGraw and Gustavo
Calado won the 800 Freestyle Relay and set a new Gator senior record
with a time of 6.48.24. Records continued to fall on Saturday. 14 year
old Holly Harper broke a 10 year old record in the 100 Backstroke with
a time of 59.04. Gustavo Calado and Todd McGraw finished first and
second respectively in the 200 Fly with Todd bettering his 17-18 team
record with a time of 1.48.18. On the final day of the meet, Gustavo
Calado bettered his Gator senior record that he set 5 years ago with a
time of 1.50.38. Finally, our senior men won the 400 Freestyle relay.
The team of Joey Girani, Seth Wensel, Carlos Maciel, and Gustavo Calado
also set a new Gator senior record with a time of 3.06.32. Good
Swimming Gators! The senior team will next compete at the Central Zone
Championship Series in Indianapolis, IN.
The Gators placed 3rd in this weekend's Blue Ridge Regional
Championship at the Lynchburgh YMCA. There were many best times and age
group championship cuts achieved. Below are the scores and results from

Good job to all Gators who swam in the Southwest District
Championship. There were many best times, new standards, and event two
team records achieved. Keith Myburgh started off the meet by winning
the 10 and under men's 500 Freestyle as a 8 year old. His time of
6.49.97 set a Gator 8 and under team record. Khalil Fonder also earned
a place on the record board by besting one of the oldest Gator records.
Khalil went a 15.37 in the 25 Butterfly to win the event and beat a 19
year old team record. Other event winners included Natalie Kulp (10 and
under 500 Free), Cabell Whitlow (7 and under 25 Free, 50 Back, 100
Free), Keith Myburgh (8 year old 25 Free, 100 IM, 25 Breast, 50 Free,

Gator swimmer, Todd McGraw, represented the USA
National Junior Team in Australia last weekend at the 2008 Victorian
Open. Todd swam exceptionally well, placing 2nd in the 200 Fly
and 4th in the 400 IM. His time of 4.28.32 in the 400 IM gave Todd his
2nd Olympic Trial Cut. Additionally, Todd's time of 2.01.25 bettered
his 17-18 state record in the 200 Fly. Both times were Gator team
records.
Gator swimmer Todd McGraw has signed with the 9th
ranked University of Georgia Bulldogs for next year. Over the past year
Todd has made senior national cuts, placed 3rd in the Junior National
Championship in the 200 Fly, earned a place on the United States
Swimming National Junior Team, broke Virginia Swimming's 17-18 LCM
record and made his Olympic Trial Cut in the 200 Butterfly.
Congratulation Todd! Your hard work and dedication to the sport has
really paid off.
GATORS MAKE STRONG SHOWING AT HIGH SCHOOL STATES
The Gators swam strong at their high school swim meets. Todd McGraw
set a new A-AA state record in the 200 IM by swimming a 1.51.26. Todd
also won the 500 Freestyle. Other high school state champions are Seth
Wensel in the 200 Freestyle, Ali Horn in the 200 Freestyle, and Lauren
Hines in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke. Congratulations to all
Gators who swam at their state meet. You represented both your club and
yourselves very well.
SWAT WINTER INVITATIONAL
In the last meet before the championship
season begins, the Gators made a strong showing at the SWAT Winter
Invitational. Congratulations to Brittany Ritter for making her first
two Age Group Championship cuts in the 200 IM and 200 Free. The Gators
will next swim at the District Championship in Roanoke on February
15-17. Results and update top times can be found below.
Wow! The Virginia Gators placed first out of over 60
teams who participated in this years Pitt Christmas Invitational. The
Gators started off the Pittsburgh Christmas Invitational in the right
way. Todd McGraw (1000 Free and 100 Fly), Ali Horn (13-14 200 IM), and
Austin Criss (13-14 200 Free) won individual events. The Gators' Men
and Women teams both won the 800 Free Relay. 5 team records were also
broke today. Todd McGraw broke the 17-18 1000 Free record with a time
of 9.22.83. Two 15-16 records were broken, Kerri Sink in the 200 IM
(2.07.08) and Seth Wensel in the 200 Free (1.40.76). Ali Horn swam a
2.08.52 in the 200 IM to break the 13-14 team record. Also in the 13-14
age group, Austin Criss bested the 200 Free standard with a time of
1.47.38.
The Virginia Gators continued their strong swimming
on the second day of the Pitt Christmas Invite. Lauren Hines won the
senior 50 Freestyle and Gator relay teams took the Boys 11-12 Freestyle
Relay, the 15-16 Girls 200 Medley Relay, and the Men's Senior 400
Medley Relay. In addition, two more team records were broken. In the
400 IM Todd McGraw swam a 3.57.06 to set a record in the 17-18 age
group. Also in the 400 IM, Miriam McGeath bettered her 15-16 record
with a time of 4.27.73
Our swimmers finished up the final day of the meet by
winning 7 individual events and 3 relays. Todd McGraw took the 200
Backstroke and set a Gators 17-18 team record in the process with a
time of 1.50.62. Another team record was set by Seth Wensel in the
15-16 100 Freestyle. Seth swam a 47.35 to win this event. Other
swimmers to win events were Jared Jones in the 13-14 100 Free (49.53),
Lauren Hines in the 100 Free (51.99), Austin Criss in the 13-14 200 Fly
(2.02.37), Kerri Sink in the 200 Fly (2.08.90), and Garrett Greenland
in the 15-16 100 Breast (59.81). Our 13-14 Girls' Relay of Jackie
Crawford, Maddie Kennedy, Holly Harper, and Ali Horn captured the 13-14
200 Free Relay. To cap the meet, both the women (Ali Horn, Bunge Okeyo,
Kerri Sink, and Laurn Hines) and the men (Walter Lessa, Carlos Maciel,
Joey Girani, and Seth Wensel) swept the 400 Free Relay. Complete

GATORS SET THREE TEAM RECORDS AT SENIOR CIRCUIT MEET
The Gator senior team swam exceptionally well last
week at the Speedo Eastern States Senior Circuit Meet. In this highly
competitive meet the Gators won 19 events. Many of our swimmers had
multiple best times and three team records were set. Ali Horn broke two
11 year old records in the Girls 13-14 200 Fly (2.06.64) and the 500
Free (5.02.55). The 20 year old record in the15-16 Girls 800 Free Relay
was smashed by the team of Miriam McGeath, Devin Henry, Kerri Sink, and
Bunge Okeyo with a time of 8.02.92. Way to go girls!
Our younger Gators attended the SMAC Age Group Meet
last weekend in Waynesboro. Our swimmers represented themselves well.
Our 8 and under girls won 8 events. Ali Lawson won the 50 Fly, 100 IM,
25 Breast, and 25 Back. Paige Assid won the 50 Back, 25 Fly, and 100
Free. Margo Winn came in first in the 25 Free and also made her first
Pittsburgh cut in the 50 Backstroke. Also, good job to Brittany Ritter
won dropped 15 seconds in her 200 Freestyle and to Ellie Goldstein who
made her first A time in the 50 Fly.
The Gators hosted our
annual Halloween Classic on October 12 - 14. We had many best times
throughout the weekend. Good job to all our swimmers! Complete results

Gator swimmer, Todd McGraw, made the United
States Swimming National Junior Team thanks to his performance at
Junior National Championships last week. Todd placed 3rd in the 200
Butterfly with a time of 2.01.45. The time was an Olympic Trial Cut as
well as a new Virginia Gator team record and Virginia Swimming Men's
17-18 state record. As a member of the National Junior Team, he will
participate in a training camp in October and an international
competition in Australia in January 2008. Great job, Todd!!!
The Gators would like to
welcome Greg Lake to our already strong coaching staff. Greg is a
native of Springfield, Illinois and brings 16 years of competitive
swimming and over 12 years of USA/YMCA coaching experience to our team.
He is a level 4 ASCA certified coach. Greg has two children, Jackson
age 17 and Eleanor 6 mos. Greg comes to us from the Elgin Pelicans of
Elgin, Illinois. The Pelicans recorded over 350 new team Records, sent
over 50 individuals to YMCA Nationals, two YMCA National Champions, one
USA Senior National Qualifier and have had over 40 Top 16 reportable
times during Greg's tenure. Previously Greg coached in Charleston, West
Virginia where he was the Head Age Group Coach, Asst. Senior Coach,
& Asst. Director of the University of Charleston Aquatic Team
(HYCAT) for the 4 years. HYCAT is a team of over 225 swimmers. Where he
coached over 30 USS Top 16 Reportable swims since 1999, 5 Southern Zone
Finalists, over 30 State Record holders, and numerous Y-National
qualifiers. He has served the WV LSC as Age Group Vice-Chair, Top 16
tabulator, club coordinator, and safety coordinator. Greg has also
served as the Head coach of the WV Southern Zone team 3 times. Greg was
also Head Coach of the Cortez Leopard Sharks in Cortez, Co. where he
coached swimmers from novice to college level. The team tripled in size
during his tenure and he coached numerous athletes that went on to swim
at the collegiate level. He was also the Head Coach for the Women's
& Men's High School team at Montezuma High School in Cortez, Co for
two years. Every season swimmers went on to swim at the Colorado State
High School Championships. Greg will be coaching our Senior group along
with our head coach, Doug Fonder.
GATORS TAKE 3rd PLACE AT
VIRGINIA SENIOR CHAMPS
Even with many of our swimmers
resting for up coming national meets in the coming weeks, the Gators
finished a solid 3rd place overall at Virginia Senior Championships.
Multiple team records were broken including the 15-16 Men's 100 Fly,
400 Free, and 200 Free by Seth Wensel, Senior/ 17-18 Men's 200 Fly
record by Todd McGraw, and the 15-16 Women's 400 Free and 800 Free
Relays by the team of Bunge Okeyo, Kerri Sink, Devin Henry, and Miriam
McGeath. Todd McGeath was the top male scorer in the meet and Kerri
Sink was the top female scorer. Good luck to Kerri and Todd as they
journey to Indianapolis, IN for USA
Swimming Junior Nationals. The Gators will also be represented at
Senior Nationals by Scott Thacker and Brazilian Nationals by Nelson

Age Group Championships. Among the stand out preformances was Allie
Criss who won four events and set a Gator team record in the 400
Freestyle with a time of 5.19.96. Austin Criss also set a team record
in 13-14 200 Freestyle with a time of 2.05.86. Great job Gators! Next
week our swimmers will compete in Virginia Senior Championships at
George Mason University.
At the USA Swimming Spring
Championships in New York, Todd McGraw made his Olympic Trial
qualifying time in the 200 Meter Butterfly. Todd finished 10th overall
with a time of 2.03.32. He joins such Gators as Dan Summerlin, J.J.
Freitag, Chris Pyle, Angie Farris, Stephanie Brinser, and Claire
Wooddall-Gainey in qualifying for this prestigious meet. Way to go
Todd!!!! Todd also set a 17-18 team record in the 100 Fly with a time
of 56.14. Stephen Hawkins also set two team records in the 17-18 age
group. Stephen swam his 50 Free in 24.03 and his 100 Free in 53.06.
Finally, our relay team of Stephen Hawkins, Elzio Pereira, Gui
Santiago, and Marcos Capuano placed 4th in the 400 Freestyle Relay to
set a new Gator senior record.
Jacob Siar and Allie Criss
represented the state of Virginia at the Eastern Zone All Start Meet in
Buffalo, New York. Jacob broke his own 11-12 200 Backstroke record by
swimming a time of 2.10.74 and achieved a national reportable time in
the 50 Butterfly (26.27) in his lead off split of the 200 IM. Jacob was
also part of the winning 400 Freestyle Relay. Allie placed 8th in the
100 Backstroke with a time of 1.10.71. Jacob also scored in the 200 IM
and the 500 Free.
The Virginia Gators finished 8th in
this weekends Age Group Championship Meet in Newport News. Jacob Siar
finished in the top two in several of his events and broke the Gator's
11-12 200 Backstroke record with a time of 2.12.63. Good job to
everyone who swam this weekend. Updated top times, team records, and

The Virginia Gators placed 4th at
Virginia Senior Championship at the University of Virginia. The men's
team placed 2nd while the women placed 5th. There were several event
winners and team records. Miriam McGeath started out the meet by
winning the 1650 Freestyle in a time of 17:31.58. Miriam also broke the
15-16 team record in the 400 IM with a 4:31.83. Nancy Baar dropped 4
seconds off her 100 Backstroke to win the event. In the process she set
a Gator senior record, a Senior Championship meet record, and made her
senior national cut. Nancy also broke the 17-18 team record in the 50
Free with a time of 23.50. The men were not to be out done. The Gator
200 Freestyle Relay team of Kip Abbott, Elzio Pereira, Marcos Capuano,
and Gui Santiago place 2nd and broke a 17 year old Gator record
(1:24.40). Drew Starr broke four 15-16 team records in the 200 Free,
500 Free, 100 Back, and 200 Back. Joey Girani also broke a 15-16 team
record by swimming a 47.76 in the 100 Freestyle. GOOD SWIMMING GATORS!
The Gators continued their strong
swimming this championship season with a 3rd place finish at the Blue
Ridge Region Championship. George Catledge dropped time and obtained A
times in every event he swam including first place finishes 100 Free
and 100 IM. His brother Jospeh, dropped 8 seconds to swim his first A
time in the 100 Butterfly. Sandy Chang also had a great meet. She had
best times in all 7 events she participated in and got her first A time
in the 100 Breaststroke. Jordyn Jones made her 11-12 age group
championship cut in the 200 Backstroke. Emily Heck swam fast to drop
time in 6 of her events and make A times in both the 50 Fly and 100
Back. Conner Scro pushed hard in the 100 IM to make his A time and cut
time in 5 of his swims. Matt Doughty (100 Fly), Jane-Anna Caldwell (50
Fly), Chelsea Woolfolk (100 Fly, 200 Breast, 400 IM), and Rachel
Wrotniewski (50, 100, 200 Back) also achieved A times during this meet.
Overall, the Gators had 65 best swims. The Gators will next take part
in Senior Championships at the University of Virginia on March 8 –
11th. Go Gators!
The Gators started off the 2007
Championship season with a bang at the Southwest District Championship.
The team had many 1st place finishes in both individual events and
relays. There also many best times and BB time standards achieved. Dana
Barringer in her first meet this season won the 9-10 Girls 100
Butterfly and came in 2nd in several other races. Emma Cartledge swept
the 7 and under Butterfly events, winning both the 25 and 50. Michael
Chang dropped in every event he swam and won the 8 year old 50
Breaststroke. Khalil Fonder was first in both the 25 Breast and 50 Fly.
7 year old Khalil obtained a BB time in the fly with a time of 41.17.
Lauren Heck also took home first places in 7 and under events, winning
the 100 IM and 100 Freestyle. Brittany Ritter dropped 13 seconds to
achieve her BB time in the 500 Free. 6 year old Taylor Summerlin
tackled the 500 freestyle in the time of 9:23.41. Andy Ryoo won 5
events at the SW District meet including the 9-10 100 Back in which he
swam to an A time. Good job Gators!
Steven Hawkins dominated the AA High
School State meet by winning two individual events. Steven won the 50
Freestyle with a time of 20.84 and the 100 Freestyle in 45.52. The 100
Freestyle time set a new AA High School State Record. His swims in this
meet also were Senior National cuts and bested the Gator 17-18 team
records in these events.
The Gators won the 2006 Pitt
Christmas Invitational. We had a large amount of best times, events
won, team records, meet records, and even a state record in the Men's
400 Medley Relay. The most impressive part of the meet was the
dominating performance by our senior men's team. Our senior men won all
the individual events in the entire meet. Many times placing top two.

After the first day of the
Pittsburgh Christmas Invitation, the Gators have broken four team
records. Gustavo Chagas broke both the men's 100 Butterfly record and
set a meet record with a time of 48.78. In the same race, Todd McGraw
set a Gator 17-18 mark with a time of 49.59. Todd and Gustavo, along
with Thiago Caze and Marcos Capuano bested the 800 Freestyle Relay
record with a time of 6:50.91. Finally, Dorthy Halmy set the Gator 8
and Under team record with a swim of 1.09.80 in the 100 Freestyle.
Records continue to fall at the Pitt
Christmas Invitational. The Gators swam strong and set three additional
team records today. In the 50 Freestyle, Gustavo Chagas swam a 20.67 to
tie a meet record and set a new Gator senior record. In the same race
Stephen Hawkins broke an 15 year old Gator 17-18 record with a time of
21.17. To conclude the day, the Gator senior men's team of Elizo
Pereira, Scott Thacker, T.McGraw, and Gustavo Chagas bested the
Virginia state record in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3.23.12.
The meet concludes Sunday.
The Gators swam strong on the third
day of the Pitt Christmas Invitational. Both Nancy Baar and Todd McGraw
set team records in the 17-18 age group. Nancy went a 51.66 in the 100
Free to win the event. Todd got his Senior National Cut in the 200 Fly
with a time of 1.48.72. Scott Thacker also made his Senior National Cut
with a time of 55.96 in the 100 Breaststroke.
This past weekend the Gators took
part in the Hargrave Groundhog Invitational in Chatham, Virginia. All
age groups of our team represented themselves well. Our 8 and unders
swam particularly hard. Several 8 and unders particapated in longer
events and did great! 7 year old Margo Winn had a legal time in the 200
IM. Both Taylor Summerlin (6) and Lauren Heck (7) raced in the 100
Butterfly and achieved B times. Our 9 - 10 year old girls Rachel
Wrotniewski and Allie Criss both had great meets. Together, Rachel and
Allie won every event they swam this weekend. Conner Scro, in his first
meet this season, won the 50 Breaststroke and got his Age Group
Championship cut in both the 50 and 100 Breast. Jacob Siar dominated
the 11-12 boys, winning every event he swam. Mac McNally dropped time
in almost every race and went under a minute for the first time in the
100 Freestyle. The Gators start their championship season in two weeks
at the Southwest District Championship in Roanoke. Updated top times

Our younger Gator swimmers took part
in the Gator Achiever Meet at our sister club in Charlottesville. We
swam well and had lots of fun. Good job to Triff H'Doubler who got her
first legal times in breaststroke and butterfly. At 3 years 1 month,
the Gators had our youngest swimmer ever, Caroline Summerlin,
participate at this meet. Caroline swam a legal 25 backstroke with a
big smile on her face. Great swimming this weekend Gators!
The Gators are well represented at
the US Open at Purdue University. Nancy Baar, Gustavo Chagas, and Scott
Thacker competed with world class swimmers at the first major meet of
the season. During the first day of the US Open, Scott Thacker finished
15th in the 100 Breast (LONG COURSE METERS) with a time of 1.05.39.
Gustavo Chagas broke the team record in the 50 Free with a time of
23.89. On the second day of the US Open, Gustavo swam a 56.03 in the
100 meter fly to set another team record. Updated team records and full

In a strong pre-taper meet, the
Virginia Gators won the 2006 Thanksgiving Invitational. Austin Criss
broke a seven year old 11 - 12 team record when he swam a 1.01.32 in
the 100 yard backstroke. The Gator senior men dominated the meet. In
many of the final events the Gators held 6 or 7 of the top spots. The
following swimmers who won individual events: Allie Criss, Nelson Helm,
Austin Criss, Thiago Caze, Gus Chagas, Nancy Baar, Todd McGraw, Scott
Thacker, Hayden Helm, Stephen Hawkins, Elzio Pereira, Miriam McGeath,
and Matt Doughty. Also, the Gator coaching staff would like to
recognize Elise Dove, Kayla Mims, Kim Skellington, and Dominique Young
for swimming in their first meet. Great job guys! The Gators next meet

The Gators swam well at the SMAC Fall
Invitational this past weekend. There were lots of best times and good
races. Good job to Emily Heck, Matt Hannah, George Cartledge, and
Joseph Cartledge for swimming BB times in their events. Results and

SWAT Thanksgiving Invitational in November.
The Gators started off
the 2006 season with a bang by setting 3 team records. Congratulations
to Dorothy Halmy for besting the 8 and Under Girl's 500 Freestyle
record with a time of 7:08.85. Austin Criss improved on his 11-12 200
Backstroke record with a time of 2:14.82. Austin also swam 18:03.82 in
the 1650 Freestyle to set the 11-12 team record. Good job to everyone
who swam this weekend. The Gators next meet will take place November

The Gators will be
hosting a lake swim on September 16th and 17th at Bernard's Landing at
Smith Mountain Lake. The 5k swim begins at 5:00 P.M. on Saturday the
16th. Sign-ups are from 4 to 4:45. A 1 mile swim begins at 11:00 AM on
Sunday the 17th. Sign-ups are from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. The races will
take place in Sailors Cove at Bernard's Landing. If any additional

GATORS PLACE
4th AT SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Gator senior
swimmers finished up their long course session with a 4th place finish
at Virginia Senior Championships. The men's team just missed winning
the meet coming in second by only 30 points. The Gator men bested all
five senior team relay records including a state record swim of 1.47.15
in the 200 medley relay by Marcus Capuano, Scott Thacker, Gustavo
Chagas, and Stephen Hawkins. Scott Thacker also made his senior
national cut by winning the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1.05.10.
Other winners included Marcus Capuano (100 Back), Gustavo Chagas (50
Free, 100 Free, 200 Free) and Nelson Silva (800 Free). Stephen Hawkins
also set the 17-18 team record in the 100 Free with a time of 54.98 and
Garrett Greenland set a 15-16 team record in the 100 Breaststroke with
a time of 1.09.29. Complete results and scores are posted below.
The Gators swam to an
4th place finish at age group championships at George Mason University.
Notable swims included Austin Criss winning the 11-12 men's 400
Freestyle and 200 Butterfly, Ali Horn winning the 13-14 women's 1500
Freestyle and Matt Doughty winning the 9-10 50 Backstroke. Several team
records were also set. The relay team of Devin Henry, Victoria Mesner,
Ali Horn, and Bunge Okeyo broke the 13-14 200 Freestyle, 200 Medley,
and 400 Medley Relays. The team of Devin Henry, Lauren Gray, Ali Horn
and Bunge Okeyo broke the 13-14 400 Freestyle Relay Record. The 11-12
men's team of Jacob Siar, Harrison Helm, Mac McNally, and Austin Criss
set the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relay Records. Dorothy Halmy, Jordyn
Jones, Zoe Horn and Allie Criss set the 9-10 women's 400 Medley Relay.
Several individual team records were also set. Dorothy Halmy broke the
8 and Under 100 Backstroke with a time of 1.34.83. Austin Criss set
both the 11-12 men's 200 Backstroke (2.35.22) and 200 Butterfly
(2.32.33). Way to go Gators!!
The Virginia Gators
will attend the 18th Annual Furniture City Invitational in High Point,
North Carolinia. Two team records were set. Nelson Helm set the 400
Freestyle record for the 9-10 age group by swimming a time of 5.21.58.
Austin Criss swam a time of 2.40.64 to bettered his record in the 200
Backstroke. The Gators will next attend the GSA Eastern Invitational on
July 7-9.
The Gators kicked off the
season by taking part in the 2006 Carolina Aquatics Long Course Open.
Austin Criss set an 11-12 team record in the 200 Backstroke with a time
of 2.41.64. Good job Austin! Below are the results, updated top times,

Wow! The Vriginia Gators/ Franklin County Family YMCA swim team
placed 5th overall at YMCA Nationals in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The
Gator men placed 2nd and set four team relay records, two state relay
records, and had one individual national champion. Scott Thacker won
the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2.03.64. The relay team of Nelson
Silva, Scott Thacker, Igor Nishi, and Gustavo Chagas won the 200 and
400 Medley Relays in state record times. The relay team of Thiago Caze,
Nelson Silva, Igor Nishi, and Gustavo Chagas set team records in the
400 and 800 Freestyle Relays.
The Gators were well represented at the 2006 Eastern Zones All Star
Meet. The Gators sent four swimmers, Lauren Gray, Austin Criss, Matty
Doughty, and Jared Jones. Jared had a stand out meet, winning four
events (50 Free, 200 Free, 500 Free, and 200 Fly) and setting 5 team
records
The Gators had a great meet this weekend, placing 3rd in the state
of VIrginia. We had a ton of top times and records broken. Check out

The senior team went into Senior Championships at the University of
Virginia and broke several team records. Two of our oldest relay team
records were bested. The team of Scott Hawkins, Scott Thacker, Igor
Nishi, and Gustavo Chagas swam a 1.34.11 in the 200 Medley Relay.
Nelson Silva, Scott Thacker, Igor Nishi, and Gustavo Chagas came back
later in the meet in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3.26.80. Three
individual records were also broken. Seth Wensel broke the 13-14 100
Backstroke record with time of 56.36. This time is also a YMCA national
cut. Andrew Starr broke two records in the 15-16 age group. Andrew swam
a 1.54.25 in the 200 Backstroke and a 4.39.09 in the 500 Freestyle. The
seniors will swim their last meet before YMCA Nationals at Rock Hill,
South Carolina. We will leave for YMCA Regionals on Thursday evening.
The Gators finished a close third place this weekend
at the Blue Ridge Regional Championship at the Jamerson YMCA in
Lynchburg. The Gators swimmers had numerous best times and Age Group
Championship cuts achieved. Hayden Helm stood out by finishing in the
top 10 in the majority of his events and winning the 10 and under 50
Backstroke as an 8 year-old. Hayden also set three 8 and under team
records in the 50 Backstroke, 100 Backstroke, and the 500 Freestyle.
Matt Doughty also swam well, achieving an AA time in his 100 Fly and
knocking over 30 seconds off his 500 Freestyle. The Gators also had a
strong showing from their 10 and under girls. Meagan Skilling, Allie
Criss, Zoe Horn, and Rachel Wrotniewski all made Age Group Championship
time standards. Virginia Thornhill made her first A time in the 50
Backstroke, Katie Snyder and Emily Heck dropped time in all their
events. Not to be out done, our 11-12 swimmers also had some
outstanding swims. Jane-Anna Caldwell dropped 12 seconds in her 200
Backstroke and just missed her A time. Rachel Goldstein dropped in 8 of
her events, most notably getting a best time in her 500 Freestyle by 7
seconds. Mac pushed hard, dropped time and made both his 100 Fly and
200 Fly cuts. Harrison Helm showed his versatility and made a JO cut in
one of his off events, the 200 Back. Finishing off the meet, Lauren
Gray swam hard and dropped 3 seconds in her 200 Freestyle to make the

Championship season started with a bang this past
Friday at the Carter Center in Roanoke. The Gators swam hard and went
on to win numerous individual events and relays. Our 8 and under boys
were lead by Hayden Helm, Joseph Cartledge, Joachim Hermansen, and
Bailey Wood who placed highly in their events. Our group of 6 and under
girls were amazing. Taylor Summerlin, Claire Snyder, Lauren Heck, and
Emma Cartledge had beautiful strokes and swam fast. Lauren took 1st in
the 7 and Under 50 Butterfly as a 6 year old with a time of 59.41.
Madeline Winn dropped 2 seconds in her 50 Fly and achieved her 10 and
under B time. Both Reagan Johnson and Emily Heck stretched out their
strokes and both made their BB cuts in the 100 Backstroke. Virginia
Thornhill pushed herself hard and dropped 14 seconds in her 100
Butterfly to swim a BB time of 1.32.92. Conner Scro had a wonderful
first meet achieved 10 and under BB in the 100 Breast and 50 Back. The
9-10 year old boys of George Cartledge, Matt Hannah, Nathan Melius and
Tristan Loflin also swam well this weekend.
The older swimmers also did well in their events.
Chris Hermansen and Kaelin Allred started the meet dropping 38 seconds
and 24 seconds respectively on their 500 Freestyle. Ty Carlin dropped
25 seconds in his 200 IM and went on to swim personal bests in all his
races. Jane-Anna Caldwell made 3 BB cuts in the 200 Free, 500 Free, and
the 100 Fly. Congratulations to Darby Dillard and Anna Bellavia who
swam in their first meet. Scott Bellavia swam tough and competed in
both the 500 Freestyle and the 400 IM within 45 minutes on Friday
night. Chelsea Woolfolk and Ruthie Greene ended the meet by swimming
strong in their first 1650 Freestyle. Good job guys! The Gators will
next compete this weekend in Lynchburg at the Blue Ridge District

The Gators swam well in their final meet before
championship season begins. There where several good swims and time
drops. Congratulation to Hayden Helm who broke the 8 and Under 500
Freestyle record with a time of 7:07.77. Ali Horn swam a 2.16.17 in her
200 Backstroke to set the 11-12 team record. Other notable swims
included 11 year old Kaelin Allred dropping 17 seconds in the 100
Breast, Allie Criss swimming a 7.25.10 in her first time swimming the
500 Freestyle, and Lauren Gray dropping a 53 seconds in her 1650.
Austin Criss also swim well, dropping 17 seconds in his 500 with a time
of 5:28.05 and 48 seconds in his 1650. Chris Hermansen swam hard in his
100 Backstroke to drop 12 seconds. Zoe Horn made her first JO cut with
a time of 1:33.06 in her 100 Breaststroke. Also, the team would like to
recognize 6 year olds Claire Snyder and Khalil Fonder for swim a legal
100 IM at the meet. Good job guys! Updated information from the meet

the B/C District Championships at the Carter Center on February 17-19.
The Virginia Gators continue to swim well this
season. There were lots of best times, new time standards achieved, and
great swims this weekend. The 8 and Unders were lead by Hayden Helm and
Madeline Winn. Hayden won 6 of his events and attained 4 BB times for
10 and Unders. Madeline Winn achieved a B time in her 50 Fly and won 2
individual events. Our 8 and unders were also strongly represented by
Matt Caffrey, Emma and Joseph Cartledge, Khalil Fonder, Lauren Heck,
Joachim Hermansen, Brittany Ritter, Claire Snyder, and Margo Winn.
These following swimmers dropped time in every event they swam.
The Gator age group swimmers also had some
outstanding swims. Megan Skilling made her first 4 age group
championship cuts. Included in those swims was a AA time in her 50 Fly.
Our 10 and unders continued to impress with big time drops by Virginia
Thornhill, Zoe Horn, Rachel Wrotniewski and Allie Criss. Zoe made her
first A time in her 50 Back. Triston Loflin swam hard and dropped in
all of his events. Nelson Helm had an impressive swim in his 100 IM and
achieved a AAA time standard in this event. Our 11-12 year old swam
strong. Obi Okeyo, Austin Criss, Harrison Helm, and Rachel Goldstein
all had some impressive drops this weekend. 13 year old Ty Carlin had
one of the most impressive swims of the weekend dropping over 40
seconds off his 200 Freestyle. Lauren Gray swam her first 400 IM and
went an impressive time of 5:07.80. Ruthie Green had a solid meet and
swam her first BB time in her 200 Freestyle. She also had notable time
drops in her 200 Fly (19 seconds) and her 500 Freestyle (20 seconds).

After braving the
snow and ice, the Virginia Gators arrived in Pittsburgh and went on to
win their 2nd consecutive Team Pitt Christmas Invitational. The Gators
swam their way to 11 team records, 4 meet records, 36 events won, 6
National Age Group Reportable Times, and multiple first time U.S. Open,
Junior National, and YMCA short course nationals cuts. All age groups
represented themselves superbly. Below are links to updated Gator

Gators swam well last weekend at the Gator Achiever meet in
Charlotesville. There were lots of time drops and good swims. Emily
Heck swam her first BB time in the 50 Backstroke. Matt Hannah dropped
12 seconds in his 50 Butterfly and achieved several B times. Scot
Bellavia and Chris Hermansen had their first experiences with longer
events and swam great. Our 8 and Under swimmers also had a good meet
with notable swims by Madeline Winn (50 Fly), Joseph Cartledge (25
Fly), Bailey Wood (50 Breast), Joachim Hermansen (50 Breast), Rachel
Hannah (25 Fly), Margo Winn (25 Fly), and Emma Cartledge (100 IM).

The
Virginia Gators won the 2005 SWAT Thanksgiving Invitational held this
weekend at the Dedmon Center in Radford. Our age groupers had some
swims including Austin Criss’ first time under a minute in the 100 Free
with a time of 59.00. Lauren Gray had best times in all her events and
swam a 2:27.90 to place 2nd in the 11-12 200 Fly. Rachel Wrotniewski
achieved her first A time in the 9-10 50 Free with a time of 32.08. For
the second time in two meets, Jared Jones bested his team record in the
11-12 200 Breaststroke. He won the event and attained an AAAA time
standard by swimming a 2:30.63. In the 9-10 age group both Meagan
Skilling and Virginia Thornhill both dropped time in all 6 events they
swam. Ali Horn also broke a team record and achieved a Top 16 time in
the 200 Butterfly. She swam a 2:13.35 which is a YMCA Short Course
National cut.
Congratulations
to Victoria Mesner and Bunge Okeyo, who both made their first YMCA
Short Course Nationals. Victoria swam a time of 2:13.73 in the 200
Butterfly and Bunge swam a 25.21 in the 50 Free. Scott Thacker achieved
an AAAA time in his 100 Breaststroke swimming a 59.07. For the full

The
Gator Senior Team had a strong showing at the Rays' Fall Fling in Rock
Hill, South Carolina. The Gators took advantage of the beautiful new
facility at the Upper Palmetto YMCA to swim fast early in the season.

The
Gators had a great kick off to the short course season this weekend.
The swimmers cheered loud and swam great. There were loads of dropped
times and new time standards achieved. Performances of note include
fast swims by our youngest Gators. The group of Emma Cartledge, Khalil
Fonder, Lauren Heck, Claire Snyder, Taylor Summerlin, Brail Wilson, and
Margo Winn showed their stuff in the 6 and Under events. The older 8
and unders also had strong swims by Hayden Helm and Emily Heck. The
9-10 year olds were lead by Jordyn Jones, Nelson Helm, and Matty
Doughty who both placed high in all their races and achieved AA time
standards in several events. In the 11-12 age group both Ali Horn and
Jared Jones stood out. Jared broke his own team record in the 200
Breaststoke swimming to a time of 2:33.88. Ali had 10 best times in
this meet and achieved AAAA standard in her 200 Fly. Our senior
swimmers managed to tear up the water even after both swimming and
lifting on Saturday morning before the meet. Congratulations to all the

The
Smith Mountain Lake Open Water Swim went great. Thank you to everybody
who helped put on the event and particapated. Results have been posted
